The UMW Foundation will hold an open house on Friday, July 16 from 7 to 9 p.m. in Eagle Village, located at U.S. 1 and College Avenue.
The general public will have the opportunity to view the common areas and two model apartments in the student apartment complex Eagle Landing as well as retail and office space in the adjacent office building.
“This will be the public’s only chance to preview the apartments before students move into the building in August,” according to Jeff Rountree, CEO of the UMW Foundation and president of Eagle Property Holdings.
The event signals the completion of the first phase of construction in the former Park & Shop retail center. Eagle Village, owned by the UMW Foundation, is a 23-acre pedestrian-friendly residential and retail mixed-use village. The initial phase includes an apartment-style residence complex with 156 apartments, office, retail and restaurant facilities, and a multi-level parking garage.
New businesses slated to open in Eagle Village include Home Team Grill, Salad Creations, Blackstone Coffee and Pancho Villa Express. Returning businesses are Quiznos and Lee’s Cleaners. Offices and storefronts of the new businesses will open to the public when the business owners complete their construction, which is expected to be sometime between August and November. The UMW Foundation is continuing to negotiate lease agreements with new businesses.
Eagle Landing will open to students August 18. The 624-bed facility will be completely filled when the students arrive for fall semester. The pedestrian bridge, which spans U.S. 1 to connect with the Fredericksburg campus, also is expected to open that that time.
Construction of the $115 million first phase began in March 2009.
