More than 1,300 friends and family members came together at the University of Mary Washington from Friday, Sept, 20 through Sunday, Sept. 22 for the 40th annual Family Weekend.
The weekend featured more than 40 events, including the education abroad fair, a cookout and club showcase, and a tour of Brompton, the home of UMW President Richard V. Hurley. On Saturday morning, 150 runners participated in the ninth annual 5K run, organized by the UMW basketball program. The run raised money for Nothing But Nets, a grassroots movement to combat malaria, and collected donations of new and used shoes and running equipment.
Throughout the weekend, families attended numerous workshops and open houses by academic departments and student organizations. Students and families also explored downtown Fredericksburg through the first Bingo in the ‘Burg program.
