Within the application, first-year applicants to the University of Mary Washington may request to be considered for admission to the university without standardized test scores. Students offered admission this way may qualify for Test-Optional Merit Scholarships determined by their curriculum’s strength and performance within their classes (GPA). Curriculum-based scholarships are renewable and range from $500-$6,000 for Virginia residents and $500-$9,000 for non-Virginia residents planning to live on campus. To be considered for curriculum-based scholarships, first-year students must meet the February 1 application filing date. Students applying test-optional may qualify for other endowed scholarships.
74% of UMW applicants apply test-optional. Learn more about our test score and GPA averages on our Entering Class Profile page.
Exceptions to test-optional review include home-schooled applicants and students coming from narrative evaluations are required again to provide testing. We had temporary suspension due to COVID.
Admission to UMW remains a competitive process, and all candidates for admission will be considered on their own merits.
