A Note from the Executive Director
Continuing and Professional Studies at the University of Mary Washington is a place where you can engage and grow professionally and personally. We offer a variety of professional development programs, personal enrichment programs, degree programs, and certifications, so you can put your mind to work no matter what your goals.
Often we view the attainment of education as a destination. I like to think of education as a path to your desired destination. Lifelong learning matters because lives make turns, and just when we think we’ve arrived at our destination, a new mission calls. Of course we can set out on the new mission with our current tools, but it is so much better when we are well-equipped for what we might encounter. That’s where continuing education in a liberal arts context can help.
Liberal arts is the oldest program of higher education in western culture, with its foundations in discovery, inquiry, and civic engagement. At UMW, we believe that these three areas and essential disciplines, including social and physical sciences, humanities, mathematics, and language, are core leadership components across all industries.
Continuing and Professional Studies fosters a multidisciplinary view of your organizational strategy or challenge. It also equips you to teach and mentor with deeper knowledge and understanding.
So here’s your personal invitation to personal and professional growth. It only requires that you take the first step and put your mind to work. Wherever your destination, we are here to equip you for what your mission requires!
