Degree Program Checklists
- Complete the Online Application for Admission
- Earned bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or University.
- Additional official transcripts may also be required to verify transfer coursework.
- A current résumé, preferably with at least two years of professional or technical work experience.
- GMAT optional is now available for students who have three or more years of full-time, progressive post-baccalaureate work experience.
- Official scores from a GMAT or GRE taken within the last five years may be required. Use UMW test code 5398.
- In conclusion, international students may need to submit an International Transcript Evaluation and demonstration of English Language Proficiency.
- Complete the graduate education online application for admission.
- Earned bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or University.
- Competitive applicants are encouraged to have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher for the last 60 hours of undergraduate coursework and/or a 3.0 cumulative GPA on graduate coursework.
- A résumé outlining experiences and education, including any paid and volunteer experience related to education, such as coaching, religious teaching, work with Scouts, etc.
- In addition, passing PRAXIS core – reading, writing, and math – test scores (or passing scores from other qualifying tests, such as SAT and ACT). Use UMW Praxis code 5394.
- You can submit your application for provisional admission consideration if you do not have test scores to submit.
- Education Licensure Essay – Discuss a current issue in education and how it relates to why you want to become a teacher (length: 1 ½ – 2 pages, double-spaced).
- International students should also submit their Request for Form I-20 (for F-1 visa candidates), International Transcript Evaluation, and English Language Proficiency demonstration.
Literacy and Special Education
- Complete the graduate education online application for admission
- Earned bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or University.
- Competitive applicants are encouraged to have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher for the last 60 hours of undergraduate coursework and/or a 3.0 cumulative GPA on graduate coursework.
- A résumé outlining experiences and education, including any paid and volunteer experience related to education, such as coaching, religious teaching, work with Scouts, etc.
- Further, verification of your current Virginia Collegiate Professional or Graduate Professional License.
- Education Application Essay about why you are seeking added endorsement.
- International students should also submit their Request for Form I-20 (for F-1 visa candidates), International Transcript Evaluation, and English Language Proficiency demonstration.
To apply for admission to UMW’s Master of Education for Professional Development or Added Endorsement’s Educational Leadership Program, you will the items listed above in the graduate application checklist, plus these four enhancements:
- Three years of experience as a professional educator.
- Two letters of recommendation. One letter from your immediate supervisor will be required. The other should be from someone qualified to address your teaching performance and leadership potential. (UMW may contact References.)
- An interview with a writing exercise may involve responding to a case study or producing a sample administrative letter. (This will be scheduled once your application is complete.)
- Two essays (two to three typed, double-spaced pages each) addressing the essay topics below rather than the topics listed above.
- For example, discuss a current issue in educational leadership that you might face as an educational leader.
- In addition, a statement of purpose in which you discuss your current and future leadership goals. What contributions do you feel you can make to the program as a participant?
- Possess a professional teaching license.
- Complete the online graduate application for admission.
- Have earned a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or University.
- Meet the GPA expectations for graduate admission.
- A résumé outlining experiences and education, including any paid and volunteer experience related to education, such as coaching, religious teaching, work with Scouts, etc.
- Official transcripts are required.
- A personal one-page goal statement.
- International students should also submit their Request for Form I-20 (for F-1 visa candidates), International Transcript Evaluation, and English Language Proficiency demonstration.
- Adhere to the cohort schedule for the accelerated program.
