Guaranteed Admission Agreement
UMW’s Guaranteed Admissions Agreement promises that students who graduate with an associate’s degree from the Virginia Community College System (VCCS) or Richard Bland College in arts and/or sciences with a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 may obtain guaranteed admission to the University of Mary Washington.
Each fall, we enroll approximately 300 students from the Virginia Community College System and other schools, both from inside and outside Virginia, into UMW’s bachelors of arts and sciences programs. The average GPA for admitted transfer students is 3.31.
Acceptance in some degree programs at UMW is competitive; thus, guaranteed admission into UMW does not necessarily guarantee admission to these programs without further acceptance by the program or department offering the program. The agreement specifies that the majority of general education requirements will be satisfied with the following exceptions:
- Competency in a second language
- Speaking- and writing- intensive course requirements
- Experiential learning requirement
If you’re interested in applying under the Guaranteed Admission Agreement, please complete the GAA Letter of Intent and submit it to your community college counselor.
Students can also choose a non-degree enrollment program, allowing non-degree-seeking students to take classes when space is available.
