Congratulations on your offer of admission to the University of Mary Washington!
Being an international student studying in the U.S. can be a great experience. You will meet new people, try new things and experience a new country. UMW is known for its rigorous academics, innovative master teachers, and supportive community for incoming international students.
New Students
To matriculate at UMW, you must obtain a Certificate of Eligibility I-20 form, which is the document you need to apply for an F-1 visa. The Center for International Education (CIE) will issue the I-20 as soon as a student submits:
- Admissions deposit
- Request for Form I-20
- Recent (within the past three months) bank statements or other proof of finances to pay for your first year of study at UMW
- Copy of your passport photo page
Deadlines
Deadlines to submit documents for a new I-20:
- Mid-June for attendance beginning in the fall term
- Mid-October for attending beginning in the spring term
Transfer Students
If you are an international student currently in the U.S. and will transferring your F-1 status to UMW from an American high school, college, university, or ESL program, you must submit the following before the I-20 from UMW is issued:
- Admissions deposit
- Request for SEVIS Transfer I-20 Form
- Recent (within the past three months) bank statements or other proof of finances to pay for your first year of study at UMW
Deadlines
Deadlines to submit documents transferring your F-1 status are:
- July 1 for attendance beginning in the fall term
- December 1 for attendance beginning in the spring term
