Dear UMW Parents, Family Members, and Guardians,
If you are like me, you are receiving advisories about COVID-19 from virtually every corner of your lives. I am writing to update you on where the University of Mary Washington stands right now in relation to COVID-19. President Paino’s message to the UMW community, my March 11 Guidance to Students and the University’s FAQs have further details.
In essence, we are heavily encouraging residential students to go home; if they stay on campus, they must register via this form with Residence Life and Housing. At this time, university operations will continue, though some functions and hours will be modified.
One update, as of late afternoon, affects our student-athletes. Effective immediately, all UMW Athletic activities, including practice and competition, have been suspended until further notice.
As new information comes in, the University’s leaders and Emergency Operations Team assess it. The situation is evolving minute by minute. The best way to know what is happening is to check the UMW webpage specifically set up for COVID-19 information.
As always, do not hesitate to reach out to me with questions or concerns. I will try to respond as quickly as possible. As a parent of a college student, I understand how unsettling this can be; it affects everything in our lives. Please know how grateful we are for you, your student, and our extraordinary community.
Warmly,
Juliette Landphair, Ph.D.
