Snow Emergency Declaration on Fredericksburg Campus
The University has declared a snow/ice emergency on the Fredericksburg campus today, January 22, 2016. University Snow Emergency parking regulations will be in effect at 12 p.m., January 22. Please note that the Dahlgren and Stafford campuses are under a separate snow/ice management plan.
No vehicles are allowed to remain in Snow Emergency Areas after 12 p.m. Any vehicle on University property interfering with snow removal operations is subject to towing at any time during the snow emergency declaration at the owner’s expense. This includes any UMW assigned Service/Pool Vehicles for all departments and contractor vehicles that are not parked in approved locations on campus during the declaration. Please move these vehicles to one of the following lots: Sunken Road lot #13 located outside the Alvey Drive Parking Deck, the Battleground #33 lot located on Hanover Street, or Alvey Drive Parking Deck levels 1-3.
Note: No parking in the inbound and outbound lanes of Double Drive after 12 p.m., January 22.
Snow Emergency Areas include:
- All Faculty/Staff parking
- Commuter parking
- Top level of the Alvey Drive parking deck
- Top level of the Eagle Landing parking deck
- Double Drive and all driveways and roadways on campus
- Pizza Hut parking lot
- University Center lots
In the case of public events, the lot in use for the public event will be closed as soon as the event concludes.
All designated handicapped parking spaces, except those at Woodard Campus Center, and the University Center are exempt from Snow Emergency regulations. Facilities Services will ensure handicapped spaces remain accessible.
Lots will reopen at 7 a.m., January 25 unless the University is declared closed or moves to a delayed opening. Under either of these conditions, all Snow Emergency areas will remain closed to parking until the University officially reopens.
The greater Fredericksburg area is under a winter storm warning with the potential for significant snowfall and freezing conditions within the next 24 hours. If you plan to travel, please consider the potential road conditions. Decisions regarding the status of the University – classes, events, etc. – will be announced under a separate email if needed.
