As we prepare for UMW’s undergraduate commencement ceremony on Saturday, we continue to closely monitor the weather situation. It is our hope that, even if conditions are not ideal, we still will be able to hold the ceremony outdoors on Ball Circle as scheduled.
If the forecast for intermittent rain showers holds, it is likely that we will proceed with the outdoor ceremony. We will, however, provide a number of indoor viewing locations throughout the campus where family members and friends of graduates may comfortably watch the ceremony via live stream.
Should the weather forecast indicate a high likelihood of severe weather conditions – steady heavy rain, high winds, and/or lightning – we will be forced to hold the ceremony in the Anderson Center. If that becomes necessary, the decision to move the ceremony indoors will be announced by 12:00 noon on Friday, May 12. You will receive an email notification and the announcement will be posted to the University website.
If we must implement the severe weather emergency plan, the number of attendees in the Anderson Center will be severely limited due to capacity. Tickets will be required for entrance of all guests. Any subsequent announcement will include details regarding ticket distribution. All non-ticketed guests or those who arrive after the Anderson Center has reached capacity will be directed to the live stream locations to watch the ceremony.
