February 12 Campus Update
All UMW campuses (Fredericksburg, Stafford, and Dahlgren) will be open on Thursday, Feb. 13, 2025 with classes as scheduled.
We greatly appreciate the work of Facilities Operations and Landscape and Grounds to clear campus pathways and parking lots from the recent snow. Alvey Drive and the drive at Marshall Hall remain closed.
Please continue to assess the weather conditions in your location. If you are impacted by ongoing weather and surface conditions, contact your supervisor or instructor to discuss arrangements. For any campus facilities or grounds concerns related to winter conditions, please submit a work order request.
Public events continue as scheduled on Feb. 13, but check the event posts or calendar for any updates. The Great Lives talk on Feb. 13 has been postponed and rescheduled for Tuesday, April 1.
UMW Dining will open with normal hours.
Snow emergency parking regulations have ended, and this message concludes the campus advisory updates as UMW resumes on-campus normal operations on Feb. 13.
February 11 Campus Update
Due to snow accumulation and anticipated additional winter precipitation through Feb. 12, 2025, all UMW campuses (Fredericksburg, Stafford, and Dahlgren) will be closed Wednesday, Feb. 12, and classes are cancelled for the full day.
- Classes are cancelled in all modalities on Feb. 12.
- Public events are also cancelled on Feb. 12.
Snow emergency parking regulations continue to be in effect through Wednesday, Feb. 12, and include campus road closures at Alvey Drive and Marshall Hall. These parking lots may be accessed from Sunken Road. As snow melts or mixes with rain, we could experience icing overnight on Tuesday. Please allow time for Facilities Operations to clear campus.
UMW Dining may have reduced hours or limited retail dining options. Currently, UMW Dining plans to open the Top of the Cedric Rucker University Center on Wednesday, Feb. 12 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with to-go lunch options available to pick-up. Dinner on Wednesday, Feb. 12, will open from 3 to 5:30 p.m. again with to-go options. The retail dining operations will be closed on Wednesday, Feb. 12. Please dine early on Wednesday. Updates will be shared by UMW Dining on Facebook or you can join the UMWFoodies by texting 82257.
Employees who can work from home (telework) are expected to do so on Wednesday, Feb. 12. Those unable to work remotely should contact their supervisor for options. Essential personnel should report at their scheduled time, and if they have any questions, contact their supervisor.
Campus updates will be provided by email as communication channels stay online. Information is also updated on the University Information Line, which can be reached at (540) 654-2424. Updates will be shared via social media and the media as we can, but please check email first. Any severe storm updates will come through the National Weather Service via text message in UMW Alerts to keep you updated on the storm wherever you are, but campus operations and schedule changes are communicated via email and the UMW website.

February 10 Campus Message
Due to the forecasted inclement weather, all UMW campuses (Fredericksburg, Stafford and Dahlgren) will be closed Tuesday, Feb. 11 and classes are cancelled for the full day. Public events are also cancelled on Feb. 11.
The Fredericksburg area is under winter storm warning beginning at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11 through 7 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, with a forecast of heavy mixed precipitation and possible snow accumulations of 4-6 inches. Please limit travel during the storm, as snow could be heavy at times and freezing rain is possible. As snow melts or mixes with rain, we could experience icing overnight on Tuesday, and isolated flooding is possible later this week.
The Career and Internship Fair scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 11 has been postponed to Thursday, March 13. The professional portraits as part of the day on Feb. 11 have also been moved to March 13.

Panera in the Cedric Rucker University Center will be open until 3 p.m. and the Top of the Cedric Rucker University Center will close at 5:30 p.m. The top of the CRUC will be open continuously between breakfast at 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Please dine early on Tuesday. Students can also pick up continental breakfast at the Top of the Cedric Rucker University Center for the next day.
