January 6th Campus Update
UMW will be closed on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, following the snow storm on January 6. All UMW campuses (Fredericksburg, Stafford, Dahlgren) will be closed all day Tuesday, January 7.
Public events are also canceled on Tuesday, January 7, and campus buildings are closed during the snow closure.
Several inches of snow have accumulated on campus, with additional snow, ice, sleet and/or rain and freezing temperatures in the forecast through the evening on Monday. An additional 4 to 8 inches of snow is forecasted overnight Monday into Tuesday in the Fredericksburg area. Please do not venture out into the storm through the evening and overnight.
Employees who can work from home (telework) should continue to do so on Tuesday, January 7. Those unable to work remotely should contact your supervisor for options. Essential personnel are expected to report as directed by supervisors. We appreciate the work of our on-campus staff to respond to campus needs during this time. Note that areas may refreeze overnight or be icy, so please allow time and space to clear the snow.
Snow emergency parking regulations remain in effect and include campus road closures at Alvey Drive and Marshall Hall. These parking lots may be accessed from Sunken Road.
Offices may be available by email or phone while employees are working remotely, but responses could be delayed during the storm, particularly if power or communication channels are impacted. Please be patient contacting campus for spring semester updates.
Students who registered to return early to campus or remained on campus during winter break can check in with residence life staff for additional updates. Student employees scheduled to return early should reach out to their supervisors for alternate timelines. While residence halls remain open to those who registered, they do not open until later this week for new and returning students. Please continue to monitor the weather forecast in your area, and stay home and stay safe until roads are cleared. Classes do not start until Monday, January 13.
Again, we look forward to welcoming you back to campus for the spring semester after the storm passes.
