Dr. Charles Sharpless
Assistant Director for Research, Princeton University’s Andlinger Center for Energy and the Environment,
Charles Sharpless is the Assistant Director for Research at Princeton University’s Andlinger Center for Energy and the Environment, where he works to develop interdisciplinary research strategies for addressing energy-related environmental challenges. For 15 years prior, he was a professor at UMW. His research expertise is on photochemistry’s role in the fate of water contaminants, oil spills, and carbon cycling. He has published dozens of scientific papers and received the 2018 Distinguished Research Award from the Virginia Section of the American Chemical Society. Sharpless holds a Ph.D. in chemistry from Duke University and a B.A. from the Johns Hopkins University.
