Academic Degrees

B.S., Georgetown University; MIA, Columbia University; M.A., Ph.D., The University of Chicago

Prof. Al-Tikriti's interests include early modern Ottoman history, 20th century Middle Eastern history, history and politics of Turkey and Iraq, forced migration, and humanitarian affairs. He served as a board member of Medecins Sans Frontieres / Doctors Without Borders USA from 2011-17, and Vice President of MSF USA in 2016-17. He has also monitored and supervised election polling stations for the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in more than a dozen countries since 1996. Prof. Al-Tikriti has served as UMW's Fulbright Program Adviser since 2006, and completed a Fulbright Scholar grant in Azerbaijan in 2019.
