First Year Financial Aid
The Office of Financial Aid begins notifying incoming freshmen of their estimated financial aid packages in early December. The initial award packet is sent to the student’s home address. It includes the student’s estimated financial aid award (based on the results of the FAFSA), a list of required documentation/forms, and important instructions for accessing the student’s financial aid through Banner. If there is an adjustment to the initial award package, the student will receive notification through their UMW email account, instructing them to review the changes through Banner.
Primary communication, award letters and documentation needed is in the admissions portal until students deposit and are enrolled.
Continuing Student Financial Aid
Continuing student financial aid packages are created in mid-to-late May, after the previous semester grades have been posted. Continuing students will receive an email notification to their UMW email account instructing them to review their award through their Banner account. Any adjustments to the initial award package will result in the student receiving notification through their UMW email account, instructing them to review the changes through Banner.
Reviewing Financial Aid Awards through Banner Self-Service
To access the UMW Banner SSB Portal and review/accept your award(s) please go to umw.edu/banner and follow the instructions below:
1. Login to your Banner SSB Portal with your NetID and password
2. Click on Financial Aid
3. Click on Award Offer
To Accept/Decline Loans & Federal Work Study Complete the remaining steps
4. Scroll down to Work & Loans and Accept/Decline or Modify the award
5. Then hit “Submit” at the bottom of the page
