How do you stay sane during college finals? Do you A) go for a run at the Battleground, B) binge on Blackstone coffee, or C) play in a ballroom of balloons?
This finals week, our students passed the test and chose answer “C” – a ballroom of balloons.
To help students de-stress during finals week, UMW’s Office of Student Activities and Engagement filled Chandler Ballroom with nearly 2,000 balloons and opened the doors for students to toss them around.
“My stress has really tapered off,” said senior Kate Honeycutt, after engaging in a balloon battle with her friend. Students appreciated the opportunity to take a break from the serious business of studying to inject some levity into their day.
The balloon ballroom is just one of the office’s ‘stress-free zone’ events during this last week of the semester. Hundreds of students have taken advantage of the activities – playing with dogs in Christmas sweaters, getting massages, munching on snacks and doing yoga – in an effort to break from intense studies.
A balloon in hand, senior Kutof Alwaszir noted, “I acted like I was 5.”
