The University of Mary Washington today announced that Dana Byer German has been named vice president for Information Technologies and chief information officer.
German is rejoining the university in June, having served as UMW’s executive director of Data Management and Director Information Systems from October 1995 through May 2009.
“We could not have found a better candidate for this key position,” said Acting President Rick Hurley.
“Dana has the technical expertise, management skills and in-depth knowledge of the university and our people. I am delighted she will rejoin our faculty staff.”
With more than 20 years experience in information technology systems, German brings a wealth of experience in data management, analyses and reporting, and information systems integration to Mary Washington. During her prior service at UMW she directed implementation of major systems projects, including the university-wide Banner enterprise resource planning system and multiple enterprise technology initiatives, while also serving on UMW’s IT management team.
“These are exciting and promising days in the life of the university,” said German. “I feel privileged to be returning to Mary Washington, and I look forward to working with the many wonderful people that make the university such a special place.”
German is a well-known and highly respected figure at Mary Washington. Having led and coordinated collaborative efforts among technical, functional and management staff, she has a broad network of colleagues and peers both on campus and at other institutions throughout the mid-Atlantic region. She is joining the university from West Chester University of Pennsylvania where she was director of administrative computing.
Prior to her work in university information technology, German served for 10 years with the national headquarters of the American Red Cross in Falls Church, Va., and Washington D.C. She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in business management and management information systems from James Madison University, and a Master of Business Administration degree from Strayer University.
