Dianna Rowell, staff psychologist at the Veterans Administration (V.A.) Health Care System in East Orange, N.J., has been named Graduate-in-Residence for the University of Mary Washington’s Department of Psychology.
Rowell will visit the Fredericksburg campus for three days, including Thursday, September 16 for a public lecture, “Hidden Wounds of War: Psychological Treatment of Returning Veterans with Post-traumatic Stress Disorder and Mild Traumatic Brain Injury.” The talk will take place in Jepson Science Center, Room 100 at 7 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
During her visit, Rowell will talk to psychology classes to discuss her work as a practicing clinician and meet with students who are interested in clinical psychology studies.
After graduating summa cum laude from UMW in 1997, Rowell received a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the State University of New York at Albany. She specializes in the treatment of veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injury. Before joining the V.A. Health Care System, Rowell was a postdoctoral associate with the Weill Cornell Medical School Department of Psychiatry in New York City.
The Graduate-in-Residence program began in 1995 as a part of career advising within the psychology department, helping expose psychology majors to UMW graduates working in their field. Each year, the psychology department faculty nominates alumni who participate in interesting work in the psychology field.
The Graduate-in-Residence program is partially funded by the Campus Academic Resources Committee. For more information about the Graduate-in-Residence program, contact the Department of Psychology at (540) 654-1054.
