Award-winning author Jon Pineda will give a public reading at the University of Mary Washington on Thursday, October 14 as a guest poet of the Thursday Poems Series. The 5 p.m. session will be held in Combs Hall, Room 139 and will be followed by a book signing. The event is free and open to the public.
Earlier in the day, Pineda will meet with UMW students in courses taught by Claudia Emerson, Arrington distinguished professor of English, and Mara Scanlon, associate professor of English.
Pineda’s most recent book, the memoir “Sleep in Me,” was released September 1. He also authored two books of poetry, including “Birthmark,” winner of the Crab Orchard Award Series in Poetry and “The Translator’s Diary,” winner of the 2007 Green Rose Prize.
His work has been published in several literary journals, including the “Crab Orchard Review,” “Poetry Northwest” and “Prairie Schooner.”
Currently, Pineda is an instructor in the MFA program at Queens University of Charlotte.
