Alexandra Rutherford, psychology professor at York University, will give the keynote lecture “Science, Social Change and Psychology: Why History Matters” on Friday, April 22 at 4 p.m. during the University of Mary Washington’s 26th annual Psi Chi research symposium in Chandler Hall, Room 102.
The two-day symposium will be held on Thursday, April 21 and Friday, April 22 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. by the UMW chapter of the international psychology honor society Psi Chi in Chandler Hall, Room 102. The symposium and the lecture are free and open to the public. A reception will follow the April 22 conclusion of the symposium.
Rutherford teaches undergraduate courses in abnormal psychology and the history of psychology and graduate courses in the history and theory of psychology. She serves as chair of the heritage committee for the Society for the Psychology of Women of the American Psychological Association and as historian for the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues.
Rutherford edits “The Feminist Psychologist” in addition to editing the Heritage Column for the Society for the Psychology of Women newsletter and co-editing a regular feature, Making Herstory, in the newsletter of the Section on Women and Psychology of the Canadian Psychological Association.
