The University of Mary Washington today announced that Richard R. Pearce has been named vice president for administration and finance at Mary Washington and treasurer of the UMW Foundation. He had been serving in the same position in an acting capacity since last year.
In his role as vice president for administration and finance, Pearce is the university’s chief financial officer, directing facilities and capital projects, public safety and community services, human resources and business operations. He also serves as treasurer of the UMW Foundation, the nonprofit organization that manages and administers assets to benefit the university.
“I have every confidence in Rick’s ability to oversee the financial well-being of the university,” said President Richard V. Hurley. “He is a consummate professional who already has demonstrated his expertise, management skills and in-depth knowledge of the university.”
Pearce served as assistant and associate vice president for business and finance from 1998 to 2010. Prior to his employment at Mary Washington, Pearce was dean of administration and finance at Germanna Community College.
Active in the community, he is president of the Fredericksburg Boys & Girls Club and treasurer of the Fredericksburg Area Museum and Cultural Center. He also is a member of the Rappahannock Rotary and the Rappahannock United Way Finance Committee.
Pearce received a bachelor’s degree in public administration from Virginia Tech and a master’s degree in business administration from Radford University.
