More than 600 University of Mary Washington alumni and guests gathered on the Fredericksburg campus for Reunion Weekend from Friday, June 1 through Sunday, June 3. The event featured class gatherings, Alumni College sessions and activities.
For many, Reunion Weekend was the first time back on-campus in decades. For others, graduation is still a recent accomplishment.
Mark Thaden, director of alumni relations, hoped the weekend would allow alumni from all classes to share nostalgic moments and create new Mary Washington memories.
“Reunion Weekend is a special tradition at Mary Washington and a time when alumni can catch up with friends and remember their time as students,” Thaden said. “It also is an opportunity for generations of graduates to come together and see the exciting changes that have happened on campus over the years and hear about plans for the future. We have packed the schedule with activities that are sure to appeal to every alum and are excited to welcome them home.”
Alumni from 1947 to 2002 met on Friday night for gatherings by class year and on Saturday night, alumni from across the university’s history joined for an All-Class Party at the Jepson Alumni Executive Center.
On Friday and Saturday, Alumni College sessions gave alumni an opportunity to take classes in history, economics, psychology, biology, historic preservation, political science, physics and art from current professors, without the pressure of exams or assignments.
Reunion Weekend also featured open houses of new university facilities, walking tours of campus, and special events like yoga at Ball Circle and a Virginia wine tasting.
