The University of Mary Washington recently released the Presidential Leadership Statement that will be used in the search for the University’s 10th president.
Used to recruit candidates for the presidency, the leadership statement is the result of a culmination of feedback provided by students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members, all stakeholders deeply invested in the success of UMW’s next leader.
“The statement reflects the unique culture of UMW and the opportunities ahead of it,” said Martin Baker, senior vice president of Baker and Associates, the consulting firm assisting with the search. “It also describes the leadership and personal qualities the University community is seeking in their next president.”
The document will be used extensively to proactively market the search to accomplished candidates with the required skill sets. The statement also will guide the Presidential Search Advisory Committee in the process of reviewing candidates.
“The document will support the development of an exceptionally strong pool of candidates,” said Holly T. Cuellar ‘89, rector of UMW’s Board of Visitors. “It accurately reflects the voice of the University community and is the result of excellent work.”
President Hurley announced his plan to retire, effective June 30, 2016. Hurley has served as UMW’s ninth president since July 1, 2010.
