The University of Mary Washington recognized the contributions of Gates Hudson Real Estate Group at a dedication ceremony on Thursday, Nov. 19, at the Stafford campus by naming the North Building after the key supporters. The Stafford campus structure will be known now as the Gates Hudson Building.
“Gates Hudson is one of the University’s largest donors, and we are fortunate to have the company’s support, which strengthens immeasurably our programs and our educational mission,” said UMW President Richard V. Hurley. “This honorific naming is our way of showing our sincere appreciation for more than a decade of continuous giving.”
Gates Hudson, also known as GHA-Westlake LLC, has supported the University with three major land gifts in Stafford County between 2004 and 2014, totaling more than $10 million.
“Today’s world is fast-paced and exacting. To succeed, companies need skilled employees with broad backgrounds that enable them to strategize and think,” said Patricia Blackburn, president of Gates Hudson. “The graduate programs at the University of Mary Washington are known for their success in educating teachers, nurses and future business leaders. We’re proud that UMW has recognized our past support of higher education by naming the Gates Hudson Building on its Stafford campus.”
The Stafford campus opened in fall 1999 as Mary Washington’s second campus specifically designed for midlife professionals seeking academic degree and professional programs. With the addition of the North Building in January 2007, the campus quickly became the region’s premier venue for educational programs and professional conferences.
