The University of Mary Washington will launch its 11th annual STOP Hunger Food Drive to alleviate hunger in the community on Wednesday, Nov. 2, with curbside collection from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in front of the Eagle Village Giant Food Store located on U.S. 1.
Donations will be accepted through Friday, Nov. 11. Collection bins will be available on UMW’s Fredericksburg campus in dining facilities and the UMW Bookstore.
UMW Dining Services, Sodexo, has sponsored the STOP Hunger Food drive every November since 2005. Sodexo, a quality of life services provider, will be sponsoring the STOP Hunger Food Drive on nearly 600 college campuses across the nation in an effort to help stop childhood hunger in the United States.
UMW Dining Services and the UMW Athletic Department are jointly sponsoring this food drive with the support of the local YMCA, Hugh Mercer Elementary School, Food Lion, Giant Food and several other community organizations. All donations will go to the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank. The goal this year is to collect 15,000 pounds of food.
