The University of Mary Washington has been recognized among the nation’s top colleges by Money Magazine’s 2017 list of top colleges.
UMW is ranked ninth among Virginia public schools and 314 overall among the 711 four-year colleges and universities named to the list out of more than 2,400 four-year schools in the country.
“The University of Mary Washington may not be as well-known as its in-state public peers, the University of Virginia and College of William & Mary,” according to Money Magazine. “But the Fredericksburg campus of Mary Washington offers Virginia residents another option for a top-notch education at an affordable price. With about 4,000 students, Mary Washington is small for a public university, and students say the professors are accessible outside of class and office hours.”
Money Magazine looks at educational quality, affordability and alumni success to determine the rankings for its list. It also considers comparative value by looking at student success against the expected success of students with similar economic and academic backgrounds, and the offering of majors.
