U.S. News & World Report and Washington Monthly have recognized the University of Mary Washington among the best colleges in the nation.

U.S. News & World Report ranked UMW’s undergraduate program seventh among public universities in the Regional Universities-South category and 19th among regional universities in the same category. Mary Washington also ranked 13th in the Best Colleges for Veterans list, 18th in Best Undergraduate Teaching and 64th in the Best Value category in its “Best Colleges 2019” guidebook.
The listing was announced Sept. 10 in the magazine’s online edition. U.S. News & World Report bases its rankings on peer assessment, graduation and retention rates, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources and alumni giving. For the full list, visit usnews.com/best-colleges.
In addition, Washington Monthly listed UMW 21st in the Top Master’s Universities category of the 2018 Washington Monthly College Rankings. The publication also listed UMW in the “Best Bang for the Buck Southeast Colleges” category.
The Washington Monthly rates schools based on their contribution to the public good. The criteria includes social mobility that encompasses recruiting and graduating low-income students; research that produces cutting-edge scholarships and Ph.D.s; and service that encourages students to give back to their country.
