The University of Mary Washington has taken another step to help furloughed federal employees, by waiving admissions application fees for those affected by the government shutdown. Impacted families considering applying for admission to UMW can skip the $50 fee by using the waiver code “UMW66” when they complete the form online at umw.edu/apply.
In another nod to furloughed workers, the University yesterday hosted a “Day of Learning” at its Stafford campus for those feeling the effects of the nearly month-long government shutdown. About 100 people registered for the free event, which featured a series of personal- and professional-development workshops taught by Mary Washington faculty and administrators.
“I am amazed and grateful that the UMW community came together so quickly to support this group of people at this time of need,” said Executive Director of Continuing and Professional Studies Kimberly Young. “The faculty responded with topics and showed up fully to teach and share their passions with the participants.”
