Continuing and Professional Studies at the University of Mary Washington has launched a series of seminars for local businesses and professionals to invest in developing their leadership skills over six months.
The Business Acumen Series will consist of mostly monthly one-day seminars for regional businesses and organizations. Each scheduled event will cover a business acumen or leadership-related topic, such as negotiating solutions, building a culture of innovation, and skills for the adaptive leader.
Organizations and individuals can sign up for one session or register for all six. Each session has open seats for up to 50 individuals and can be booked together for a whole staff or team. The cost is $275 per person, per event, with registration closing one week prior to the event date. Group rates are also available.
“The Business Acumen Series is a unique opportunity for local organizations to elevate their knowledge of business practices and innovate their skills to produce successful leaders in our community,” said UMW Associate Provost for Career and Workforce Kimberly Young. “When you sign up your business for these seminars, you are giving your employees premier access to our University’s best and brightest professionals—resources you can’t reach anywhere else.”
The Business Acumen Series is designed by the University’s Continuing and Professional Studies leaders to address an identified need in Fredericksburg region’s growth goals and current business-sector state. Led by expert instructors from MBA programs across the nation, each seminar offers university-level knowledge and practical strategies to implement into everyday workflow, supplementing employee training with region-specific lessons.
“Whether you’re a small or an expanding business, these seminars are a game-changer. The seminars will give businesses the confidence to lead beyond the classroom and convert their newfound skills into practices that will support the mission behind their businesses,” said Director of Continuing and Professional Studies Teresa Segelken. “If you want your business to leave a lasting impact on your community, then signing up for the Business Acumen Series with the University of Mary Washington should be at the top of your yearly checklist.”
To help ensure access to these seminars, Economic Development Authorities in Stafford County, Fredericksburg and King George County have purchased spaces in the Business Acumen Series to reserve seats for their business community.
