The University of Mary Washington has expanded student access to mental health services 24 hours a day, seven days a week with the addition of TimelyCare, an on-demand online platform. The virtual service, available to students via a website or an app, offers on-demand options to students beyond the in-person hours of the Talley Center for Counseling Services.
“At Mary Washington, we seek to engage students in a fun and spirited campus experience. For students to thrive, they need to be healthy physically and mentally. TimelyCare will complement the excellent services from the Talley Center by providing students with virtual clinical and peer support; it will also offer advice to faculty and staff seeking ways to help students in distress. We look forward to all the ways in which TimelyCare will strengthen our entire community,” said Vice President for Student Affairs Juliette Landphair.
This is the second year UMW has offered an after-hours option for mental health services, and with TimelyCare, additional resources will be available at the touch of a screen. Students can schedule up to 12 sessions at any point during the academic year, including summers, with flexible scheduling in the evenings or weekends.
Through TimelyCare students can access virtual care whenever and wherever they need it. The platform includes unlimited, on-demand mental and emotional support called TalkNow, where student can connect with a provider in about five minutes. Scheduled counseling appointments are typically available within seven days. Students can select from providers based on specialty, background, and availability. Psychiatry is also available with referral and is typically available within a week.
“This is a huge addition to what we can offer students,” said Talley Center for Counseling Services Director Tevya Zukor.
The Talley Center also continues to provide appointments on campus if students prefer to talk to someone at UMW or schedule in-person sessions.
Additional tools such as digital self-care, health coaching, and a peer community extend the conversation, with live presentations and prerecorded and on-demand options. TimelyCare also provides resources for faculty and staff to access support for students 24/7 if they seek guidance or referrals.
The service is offered to currently enrolled students regardless of health insurance and is free for up to 12 sessions annually.
