The University of Mary Washington will hold the faculty solo art exhibition “Departures and Arrivals: Previous and Recent Works by Joseph Di Bella” from Friday, January 23 to Friday, February 6 at duPont Gallery. An opening reception will be held on Thursday, January 22 from 5 to 7 p.m. Both the reception and the exhibition are open to the public without charge.
Di Bella, distinguished professor of art, has taught at the University of Mary Washington since 1977. His art has been displayed in local, regional, national and international exhibitions. This show will encompass works that he has created within the past 25 years, including oil and acrylic paintings, watercolor and mixed media, drawings and digital imaging. His most recent work consists of a series of small oil paintings on copper.
Di Bella received the Simpson Award for Excellence in Teaching from UMW in 1983. He holds a bachelor’s degree in art history from Rutgers College as well as a Master of Arts and a Master of Fine Arts in painting from Northern Illinois University. A signature member of the National Watercolor Society, he is a former member of the Society of Tempera Painters and Phoenix Gallery in New York.
The duPont Gallery is located directly across College Avenue from the parking lot at the corner of College Avenue and Thornton Street, inside duPont Hall. Gallery hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 1 to 4 p.m. Free parking designated for gallery visitors is available in the lot on College Avenue at Thornton Street.
