The University of Mary Washington’s Department of Music will hold auditions for this summer’s Operafest on Saturday, April 10. The auditions will take place from 11:15 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. in Pollard Hall, Room 304. Singers should prepare an operatic aria or a classical piece. An accompanist will be provided.
The Operafest program, now in its 11th year, is designed for serious singers of all voice types who want to sing opera or perform on stage. Operafest is a fast-paced, five-week course that can be taken as a three-credit class or audited for $300.
The course offers singers the opportunity to perform operatic scenes with staging and costumes. Members of the community as well as Mary Washington students are encouraged to audition.
Rehearsals will begin Monday, May 17 and will be held Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 5 to 8 p.m. The program will culminate with two performances on Friday, June 18 and Saturday, June 19 in the Woodard Student Center, Great Hall.
