The Virginia Governor’s Office has announced the appointments of Holly T. Cuellar of Virginia Beach and Joseph R. Wilson of Fredericksburg to the Board of Visitors at the University of Mary Washington. The governor’s office also has reappointed Xavier R. Richardson to a second term on the university board.
Cuellar and Wilson succeed C. Maureen Stinger and J. William Poole on the board. Each appointee will serve a four-year term that expires June 30, 2014.
Cuellar previously served as the Hampton Roads community outreach coordinator in the Office of the Attorney General in Norfolk, where she maintained and supported the Class Action program, an educational program for Virginia school children. She also served on the City of Virginia Beach’s Gang Task Force and was a regional manager for the Keeping Virginia Safe and Strong programs. In addition, she helped develop programs to promote Internet safety and senior advocacy, as well as programs to prevent identity theft, frauds and scams. She served as family coordinator on Gov. Robert F. McDonnell’s inaugural committee, as a political director during McDonnell’s campaign for governor and as a deputy scheduler in the Office of the Attorney General.
A 1989 alumna of UMW, Cuellar also worked as legislative aide for McDonnell when he served as a representative to the Virginia House of Delegates.
Wilson is owner and chief executive officer of PermaTreat Pest Control in Fredericksburg. He is vice chairman of the Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce and a member of both the Commonwealth’s Pesticide Control Board and the Commonwealth’s Virginia Fire Services Board. A former Fredericksburg City Councilman, Wilson serves on the Fredericksburg Alliance Board of Directors, the Mary Washington Hospital Foundation Board of Trustees and the finance and community benefits committees with the MediCorp Health System Board of Trustees. He previously served as chairman of the Germanna Community College Board of Directors and the Salvation Army Citizen’s Advisory Board and as president of the Rappahannock Rotary Club. He attended Washington and Lee University and the University of Richmond.
Among his honors, Wilson has been named Virginia’s Small Business Person of the Year by the U.S. Small Business Administration, recipient of the Prince B. Woodard Citizenship Award by the Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce, Distinguished Citizen of the Year by the Fredericksburg Chapter of the Jaycees, and Outstanding Rotarian of the Year by the Waukegan, Ill., Rotary Club.
Richardson is executive vice president of corporate development and community affairs for Mary Washington Healthcare. In this capacity, he also serves as president of Mary Washington Hospital and Stafford Hospital foundations.
