The University of Mary Washington Board of Visitors has named Daniel K. Steen as rector for the 12-member board and the Honorable Pamela J. White as vice rector. Steen, who succeeds Nanalou Sauder as rector, and White will serve two-year terms in those positions. Patricia Revere will serve her second term as the board’s secretary.
“I am honored to help lead our outstanding University Board of Visitors for the next two years,” Steen said. “Our Board stands strongly behind President Hurley and his leadership team and we are ready to work with them to help make Mary Washington the college of choice for our nation’s best and brightest faculty and students.”
Steen, who lives in Arlington, is vice president of government affairs for Owens-Illinois, Inc., the world’s largest glass packaging manufacturer.
Since 2005, he has been a member of the UMW Board of Visitors, where he previously served as vice rector and secretary.
A 1984 alumnus of Mary Washington, Steen received a law degree from the University of Virginia. The UMW Alumni Association has named Steen an Outstanding Young Alumnus.
White, who lives in Baltimore, Md., has served as Circuit Court judge for Baltimore City since February 2007. She has been a member of the UMW Board of Visitors since 2009.
A 1974 alumna of Mary Washington, she received a law degree from Washington & Lee University, where she served on the university Board of Trustees from 1995 to 2004. She has been recognized as one of Maryland’s Top 100 Women, and received UMW’s Distinguished Alumna award as well as the Bar Association of Baltimore City’s Charles H. Dorsey Jr. Mentor award. In addition, she is a former president of the Women’s Bar Association of Maryland.
Revere, a 1963 alumna of Mary Washington, is a resident of Midlothian. A member of the board since 2004, she has served as secretary of the board since 2008.
