The University of Mary Washington has been named to the Princeton Review’s 2011 edition of “The Best 373 Colleges.” The Princeton Review is a New York City-based education services company that annually publishes guidebooks ranking colleges, business and law schools.
Only about 15 percent of America’s 2,500 four-year colleges and two Canadian colleges are profiled in the annual college guide. It includes detailed profiles of the colleges with school rating scores in eight categories, plus ranking lists of top 20 schools in 62 categories based on surveys of students attending the colleges.
In its profile, the Princeton Review calls UMW “a public bastion of the liberal arts in Virginia” that “offers a private school education at half the cost.”
The Princeton Review also endorses Mary Washington in its “Best in the Southeast” section of its website, “2011 Best Colleges: Region by Region.” In January, The Princeton Review listed UMW in its 100 “Best Value Colleges for 2010,” featuring the university among the nation’s 50 “Best Value Public Colleges.” The selection criteria for that ranking covered more than 30 factors in the areas of academics, costs of attendance and financial aid.
The University of Mary Washington has received national recognition through consistently high rankings in selective publications and many college guidebooks, including Kiplinger’s Personal Finance, U.S. News & World Report, The Fiske Guide to Colleges and Barron’s Profiles of American Colleges and Universities.
