University of Mary Washington Political Science Professor Stephen Farnsworth will kick off the 2016 National Security Lecture Series on Wednesday, Oct. 5, at the University’s Dahlgren Campus Center for Education and Research. His talk, “The 2016 Presidential Election: Clinton, Trump and Their Contrasting Views on National Security,” will begin at 8:30 a.m.
The fall lecture series focuses on national security challenges facing the United States.
For those who are not able to travel to the Dahlgren campus, the lecture will be broadcast in the Digital Auditorium in the Hurley Convergence Center on the Fredericksburg campus.
Farnsworth, who also is director of the UMW Center for Leadership and Media Studies, has spent decades researching how media and politics intersect. Author of The Global President and The Nightly News Nightmare, he has been widely featured in national media, including The Washington Post, Reuters and The New York Times.
The lecture series is a joint effort of the Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Military Affairs Council, the Joint Warfare Analysis Center (JWAC) and UMW. The lectures provide Department of Defense and contractor employees with overviews of international security in regions of interest and spark thought-provoking discussions.
Registration for the lectures is requested as space is limited. To register, visit National Security Lecture. The lecture is free of charge and is open to the public. Refreshments at the Dahlgren campus will be available at 8 a.m., with the lecture beginning promptly at 8:30 a.m., followed by a question-and-answer session ending at 10:30. A sign language interpreter will be present.
The Nov. 17 lecture will focus on cybersecurity, and the Dec. 13 lecture will address “Russia as a Player in World Energy.”
