“America’s coolest college president” is back on YouTube.
In advance of the inauguration of its 10th president, the University of Mary Washington will release a six-part video series, The New Guy, starring President Troy D. Paino. As “the new guy,” Paino discovers all that life has to offer at the Fredericksburg, Virginia, university and in the surrounding community. The series will premiere at a red-carpet event at the Hurley Convergence Center Digital Auditorium on Friday, April 7, at 4 p.m.
Shot over the past several months, the collection of short films follows President Paino through uniquely Mary Washington adventures, as he gets to know his new environment, along with its activities and amenities. Viewers experience the perks and traditions available to all students – absorbing the beautiful campus, taking field trips in historic Fredericksburg, catching the train to D.C. – alongside this approachable president. The star-studded episodes also feature students, notable alumni and local celebrities.
The camera loves Paino, who grabbed attention in T-Pain Misses You, a humorous film about a lonesome university president on a student-less campus during holiday break. The 2013 YouTube sensation, filmed when Paino was president of Missouri’s Truman State University, garnered more than 100,000 views and named him among “America’s coolest college presidents.”
Paino became UMW’s 10th president in July 2016. The New Guy début – featuring a guest panel of people involved with the film, refreshments and more – precedes his April 21 inauguration.
