The University of Mary Washington has once again been named among the nation’s best by The Princeton Review’s annual publication, The Best 385 Colleges. The 2020 edition of the leading college guide, which debuted today, profiles only about 13 percent of the nation’s 3,000 four-year colleges.
In it, students gave UMW high marks in both campus life and academics, praising Mary Washington for providing the “strategies and tools necessary to think critically and succeed in the workforce” and “professors [who] go the extra mile to help students.” They also bragged about the research opportunities, dedication to community service, school spirit and quality of life they found on campus.
The Princeton Review is a New York City-based education services company that annually publishes guidebooks that rank colleges, and business and law schools. The results showcased in the current edition of The Best 385 Colleges, now in its 28th year, are based on surveys of 140,000 students, who rated and reported on various aspects of their campus and community experiences. Scores were assigned in a variety of categories, including admissions selectivity, financial aid and sustainability.
The 2020 edition features quotes from Mary Washington students who gush about the array of activities that play out on Ball Circle, from “chilling on lawn chairs” and reading to games of Frisbee and spirit-building events like Club Carnival and Devil-Goat Day. They mention classic diversions like $1 movie nights and bingo and point to a plethora of opportunities in Fredericksburg and in nearby Richmond and Washington, D.C.
They described the student body as a good mix of residential and commuter students, and traditional and nontraditional students, and the environment as welcoming and accepting.
Said one: “This community feels like a second family.”
