In accordance with the federal Clery Act, this notice is being sent as a timely warning from The University of Mary Washington Police Department:
At 7:45 p.m. this evening, Thursday, Sept. 14, a strong-armed robbery of a driver of a motor vehicle occurred on Thornton Street in Fredericksburg near the Pizza Hut parking lot. A male wearing a black hoodie (with a possible red ball cap), dark pants, and red and white sneakers stood in front of the vehicle, then jumped into the passenger seat of a car being driven by a male UMW commuter student. The subject demanded to be driven to the train station, but exited the vehicle on Palmer Street after taking a small amount of cash from the driver. The driver was not injured. No weapons were seen or believed to have been involved.
As of 9:30 p.m., the suspect has been located by UMW Police and is now in custody.
