Dear UMW Community,
As we enter the final weeks of the semester, I wish each of you the best of success with final exams, end-of-semester projects, papers, grading, and all of the significant work – big and small – that is so very important and critical to conclude a successful semester.
Even as we wind down the semester, I am impressed by your continued support of UMW, not only through your dedication, but also through your generosity and support as demonstrated today on Giving Tuesday. All of your contributions matter and make a tremendous difference to our community.
Over winter break, some of you may travel to visit family and friends or to pursue seasonal jobs, internships, service-learning opportunities, research projects, and more. And, some of you may remain in Fredericksburg, working to ensure the spring semester begins smoothly or representing UMW on the field, on the court, or in the pool. I wish you the best of luck throughout the coming weeks.
The winter break can also be the perfect time to plan for summer and the next year. I encourage students to consider leadership positions across campus such as Resident Assistant (RA) and Orientation Leader (OL). Both of these opportunities provide students with leadership development, networking opportunities, public speaking experience, training on the services and resources UMW provides, bonding experiences with other student leaders, and opportunities to instill confidence in their abilities as a student and a leader. OL applications are open now through January 31st. For more information about applying to be an RA, visit the Residence Life website.
In addition, Kelly and I invite students to consider entering your name to attend a Student Lottery Dinner at Brompton next semester. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to share their Mary Washington stories and for Kelly and I to get to know our students better.
I hope you enjoy the winter break; and, I look forward to welcoming you back to campus next semester.
Sincerely,
Troy Paino
