Lighting the path to success for historically underrepresented students at UMW

The Center for Student Transition, Access, & Retention Services (STARS) aims to provide direct programming and services focused on advocacy and support to strengthen belonging and the success of first-generation, Pell-eligible, and geographically diverse students throughout their entire experience at UMW. STARS is committed to providing intentional, personal attention to historically underrepresented students to promote community development, personal enrichment, and vocational preparation that will enhance their prospect for degree completion and to be competitive in career and continuing education opportunities post-UMW.

Summer Transition Program (STP)

Learn to navigate the academic and social rigors of college life through our two-week, residential summer bride experience. The benefits of STP carry into and run throughout the entire first year.

Rappahannock Scholars Program (RSP)

High school students from the Northern Neck, greater Richmond area, and certain areas of the Tidewater region can receive assistance with the process of applying to and enrolling at UMW. Select, qualifying students can earn scholarships equal to the amount of their demonstrated financial need.

Pell-Eligible Students

UMW offers a range of funding aid programs in an effort to help Pell-eligible students bridge the gap in their college financing. Learn more about these financial resources.
